Here are a few more pictures from our trip. We had a great time and it was nice to get away and relax with good friends. As much as you can "relax" anyway with ten adults and four kids under one roof! It was actually fairly easy! The children played well with one another and mealtimes went smoothly with a well-stocked kitchen and kid-friendly food. Shelby was absolutely enamored with our friend's six-year-old daughter - you would have thought she hung the moon! Shelby followed her around like a puppy and wanted in on anything she was doing, and Hannah was wonderfully patient with her. Shelby did well sleeping on a small cot in our room and I felt so bad one evening when, about thirty minutes after we put her down, she came out to the living room and said simply, "Too loud!" Duly noted!
I thought they were both making a pretty cute/funny face in this picture. It was taken when we stopped in Macon for lunch at our old haunt, Ingleside Village Pizza. Although they moved across the street from where they used to be, their slice of white pizza, side salad and garlic knots are still just as good. After lunch, we drove up the block to our old neighborhood - our house still looks exactly the same. We marveled at how it really was a great neighborhood with some beautiful houses that rivaled ones in posh Atlanta neighborhoods like Virginia Highlands. If only it wasn't in Macon...
Hurricane Sandy meant extra high tides - here we are at our nearest beach walkover, minus the beach! We went at low tide and there was still water right up to the rock jetty! We had to drive down the street to find a stretch of sand.
After experiencing less-than-perfect beach conditions, we headed over to the island's historic area for a look around. Here is Shelby and I posing on a majestic Live Oak. It was warm but windy, hence the confusing beach gear of bathing suits and windbreakers!
Our last morning on the beach - much better! I love the beach in the fall!
Our crew bids goodbye to the island for this year. We had a lot of fun!
