Funny Words

When Shelby was first starting to talk, I would insist that we speak to her with real words and not "baby talk." Now that she's getting older and dropping her baby words, it makes me a little wistful and nostalgic for those cute days of babbling and baby talk. When she started saying "banana" instead of "nana" I was a tiny bit sad! But she still mixes up words sometimes and it's just too cute to correct. Here are a couple of things she's been saying recently that we get a kick out of:

• Instead of "my" or "I" she says "mine" - "Mine can do it." As she is in a stage where she wants to do everything herself, this is a very popular phrase at the moment. Getting in and out of the car seat, putting on socks and shoes, picking out a shirt... even if it takes fifteen minutes... "MINE CAN DO IT!" 
• Instead of "don't" she says "can't" - "I can't like it." 
• We taught her what street we live on and every time we turn onto it we ask her where she lives and she proudly shouts "Frest. Friff. Drife!" 
• Halloween = Hal-Da-Ween
• If we ask her what her baby doll or stuffed animals names are, every time, no matter what the answer is Foo Foo. 
• Her current favorite book is The Saggy Baggy Elephant and when she asks us to read it at night she requests "baggy baggy."
• When one of us is reading out loud and we stop for a minute, she simply says "talk!" 

She's a talking machine these days and you never know what funny or ridiculous thing she will say next. It's a lot of fun and our conversations make me laugh every day.
