Shelby and Daddy invent a really fun new game called Puppet Ball. Rules: Put puppets on hands. Throw ball. Laugh a lot.

Here's another picture from earlier this week (the ponytail day - she was just super cute and photo happy that day!). We tried out a pizza joint in Brookhaven called Galla's and it was really great. We were there early and on a weeknight, and it seemed pretty kid friendly. Shelby is getting so good at using a fork and utensils, although it makes me nervous when she uses a pointy adult sized fork in restaurants!
Scott also called this morning to tell me she put on her shoes all by herself! She closed the Velcro straps (they are Velcro Mary Janes) and they were even on the right foot! She is getting so independent!

22 Months Old
- I think Shelby is getting her two year molars. There is no other explanation for her short bout of fussiness and low grade fever when we went back to school and work after the holidays. She won't let me feel around in her mouth, but she wasn't herself around then and it's the only thing I can think of. She was also chewing on her hand a lot and her appetite hasn't been that great.
- She was sick this past Thursday and Friday - her first real illness since this fall. We have been lucky - she hasn't been nearly as sick as she was last winter. She just had a cough and cold and seems to be feeling better already. Crossing our fingers for the rest of the winter!
- Her favorite Christmas toy is a cheap doll stroller - of course! She pushes it to the door and says "Walk?" and then we go outside and take the baby for a walk. It's very cute to see her marching down the sidewalk! However, turning around and walking home is always an issue. She doesn't really understand that going on a walk also includes walking home and will often resist turning around! The other day, we walked pretty far and on the way back she got tired and asked me to carry her, so I had to awkwardly lug a baby, a baby doll and a doll stroller all the way home! I must've looked funny to anyone who drove by!
- It's been so wet and rainy this winter and we have to get creative for things to do. Today, we took the doll stroller to the mall and let her roam around and walk the baby inside. She thought it was so much fun!
- We had a friend over recently for a play date and Shelby did "Ring Around the Roses" for the first time. She thought it was so funny! I have forgotten about all of these kid's songs and really need to buy some on iTunes to jog my memory because she really likes them. She also likes "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and the "ABC" song. She can even sing a couple of letters!
- She is really great at stacking things and it's neat to see her carefully put blocks on top of each other ... rather than knock them down like she used to do!
- She loves it when we give her a piece of paper and ask her to put in in the trash. Her comprehension of commands and directions is getting really impressive. Of course, that doesn't stop her from "not understanding" us when we want her to do something that she doesn't want to do!
- She's just really fun and cuddly right now!
Night Night, Cat!

Usually about mid-morning, maybe after a diaper change or if we're just in her room cleaning up, Shelby asks to get back in her crib. She loves bouncing around in there, pretending to go "night night" and will ask us to put books, toys and other stuff in there with her. The other morning, she wanted the cat in the crib with her! So we put him in there, thinking he'd jump right back out, but he stayed! She absolutely loved it! She even tried to put her blanket on him and tell him "night night!" It was hilarious. The cat doesn't look very amused, but he wasn't totally annoyed because he would have jumped out. He really does seem to enjoy being around Shelby and on many evenings we'll catch him sleeping in the rocking chair while we do the bedtime routine. I think they love each other very much!

Night Vision
The other night Shelby wanted to go outside after dark, so we took the flashlight outside for some nighttime light fun! She loved it! We had some fun experimenting with long exposure photography.
I am constantly amazed at the simple things that amuse her, and I need to be better about remembering to do more things like this. At school they call them "sensory experiences" and they do simple activities like play with ice, smell different smells, or play with something like foam or soap. All these new Christmas toys and what does she like to do? Play with a flashlight, push a broom or take laundry out of the basket!
Shelby's Animal Sounds

Watch as Shelby demonstrates some of the animal sounds she knows. When I ask her the sound for "duck" notice that she flaps her arms like wings instead, and thinks she's being funny! At the end, she got distracted by the neighbor's dogs. At least she says bye!
Shelby and Daddy Play
Who's having more fun with Shelby's new toys... Shelby or her Daddy? She's being so cute in this video, just rolling around, playing and having fun! You can hear her say "block" and "look" and some other babble that I can't understand. You can also spot our new toy organization shelving in the background. I am determined to keep our toys organized and contained - and not let them take over the entire house!!

A doll stroller - her favorite!
Whew! What a great Christmas and New Year's we had. (A few more pictures are in the Month 22 Gallery and Scott is working on a cute Christmas morning video!) After a great 11 days off with the girl, we are finally returning to our regular work and school routine! We spent Christmas Eve with Scott's mom, spent Christmas morning at home and had Christmas day dinner at Scott's dad's house. The following week, we headed up to the North Carolina mountains for a 50th wedding anniversary celebration for my great aunt and uncle, and saw all of my side of the family - 25 relatives in all! Anniversary photos are in a new gallery - click here. For New Year's Eve, some friends (who also have a baby) came to stay with us and we had a fun and low key evening at home.

All throughout the week off, Scott and I kept remarking how Shelby hasn't been sick at all this winter and how she wasn't sick at all over the break. We jinxed ourselves, because she wasn't feeling well yesterday and went home early today from preschool! She has no symptoms besides a low grade fever, so we are not sure what it is. We even went to the doctor to rule out strep or ear infection. Maybe she is just suffering from a lack of her regular routine and structure! Hopefully she will feel better tomorrow. We had a great 2011 and are looking forward to an even better 2012. We were talking about potty training the other day (she went on the potty for a second time!) and remarked how we could possibly be diaper free at the end of this year. It's hard to believe time goes that fast... our little baby is growing up!
