Four Year Check Up

Shelby's stats at four years old:

  • Height: 40 inches (57th percentile)
  • Weight: 33 lbs. (35th percentile)
We had our four year check up on Friday and Shelby got FOUR booster shots! She was very brave but cried some after her shots! I felt so bad! She's a healthy growing girl. We had not been to the doctor since her three year check up a year ago. We've had a healthy year and we are thankful for it!

What Shelby's into a four years old:
  • Practicing writing her name
  • Obsessed with letters! She asks us how to spell everything.
  • Loves games! We got a number of games for her birthday and she wants to play every day!
  • Loves puzzles! I am impressed with her skill and determination in doing jigsaw puzzles. We have some that are 50 or 100 pieces and she can do them with our assistance.
  • Loves the movie Frozen and can sing all the songs .... it's so cute!
  • Coloring and painting
  • Loves going to the movies. We've seen Frozen (three times), the Lego Movie and the Muppets movie recently. She's great at sitting there the entire time.

Shelby's Birthday

We had a fun fourth birthday party! The weather was nice and the girls were able to enjoy a lot of time in the backyard. Shelby wanted a "Frozen pajama party... girls only" so that is what we had! The girls had lots of fun running around in their pajamas, playing dress up, playing "pin the nose on the snowman" and having fun with bubbles and chalk outside. You can see more photos in the gallery.

Pedal Power

I picked up an inexpensive training wheels bike at the spring consignment sale. I wasn't sure if Shelby was ready for biking yet, but she has really taken off… literally! She wants to bike nearly every day after school. We bike up the sidewalk to the elementary school and then bike around on their wide sidewalks for a while (it's already closed for the day). She can pedal pretty fast even though we have to remind her to keep her eyes on the road and keep looking forward! I can't believe how big she's getting and how into "big girl" stuff she is now! I can't believe my sweet baby girl will be four in just a few days!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Shelby is wearing a hand me down shirt from our friends the McGinty's (actually part Irish). She is not actually Irish! Her class did a unit at school this week learning all about St. Patrick's Day, leprechauns and shamrocks. It was really cute to hear her talk about the "lepre cans" and the "sharp rocks." I asked her what a leprechaun was and she said "a little guy that slides down the rainbow and gets the coins." Ha!

Warmer Days Ahead

It's finally starting to warm up a little bit and we've been enjoying some nice time outside for the past few weekends. Patio dining, parks and playgrounds is the name of the game! This past weekend, we went to Athens and watched a baseball game and attended a gymnastics meet. Shelby loved it! On Sunday we visited a new park on the Chattahoochee River  and enjoyed some more time outside. It's so nice to finally see the sun again! This is a great list of local parks and nature trails - we want to check as many as we can off the list!

What We've Been Up To

We haven't been up to much! It's been cold and rainy and we are SO ready for this winter to be over!!
Valentine's Day. She wanted to wear this Hello Kitty tiara to school. And the cat always manages to sneak in a picture!
Georgia basketball game with a huge group of our friends and their kids. We had a great time. It's always fun to go to one or two of these a year. Our crew was so big we qualified to buy  group tickets! I love this new generation of little fans and of course we want them all to go to school together and continue the tradition!
Scott was out of town for work one weekend so we made a girl's outing to the Legoland Discovery Center at Phipps. It was really fun and Shelby had a great time. The mini city of Atlanta built with Legos was very impressive! We had just seen the Lego Movie a few weeks ago so she was into having a Lego experience.

We're now full steam ahead into planning the much-anticipated fourth birthday! I cannot believe Shelby will be four years old in just a few weeks. Where does the time go? She is all about birthdays: planning birthdays, birthday themes, friend's birthdays, etc. She was very involved in the planning of this year's party. She requested an "Elsa and Anna pajama party with ring cupcakes, and only girls" aka a Disney Frozen party where everyone wears their pajamas (but it's not a sleepover) with store-bought cupcakes that come with those little plastic rings on them. Girls only… no boys. Where does she get these ideas from?? So, that is exactly what we are having! I had to do a little legwork to track down Frozen party supplies — apparently they are sold out in a lot of places — but I've secured what we need and am hoping for some nice weather.
